Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease, according to physicians. It begins when your immune system, which is designed to defend you, malfunctions and starts attacking your own tissues. It irritates the lining of your joints, causing inflammation. Your joints may become red, heated, swollen, and painful as a result.

Both sides of the body are affected by RA, such as both hands, wrists, and knees. This symmetry distinguishes it from other forms of arthritis. RA can damage various body parts and systems, including your eyes, heart, lungs, skin, blood vessels, and more, over time.
